Prof.Dr. Tamer KOÇEL Professor Dr. Tamer Koçel's Biography

Tamer Koçel was born in 1946 in Eskişehir - İnönü. He graduated from Kabataş Boys’ High School in 1963 and Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics in 1967. In the same year, he joined the university as an assistant in the Business Administration Department. In 1968, he completed the 11th Term Specialisation Programme in Business Administration at the Institute of Business Economics.

In 1974, he earned an MBA from Michigan State University in the USA and became an Associate Professor at Istanbul University in 1975. In 1977, he completed the 40th Term Programme at the Banff School of Advanced Management in Alberta, Canada.

Between 1975 and 1979, he served as the General Secretary and Education Coordinator at the Institute of Business Economics. From 1980 to 1982, he worked as a visiting professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago, USA. In 1982, the Senate of Istanbul University promoted him to full professorship in the field of Management and Organisation.

At Istanbul University’s Faculty of Business Administration and the Institute of Business Economics, he held positions as a faculty member, department head, and division head. Additionally, between 1983 and 1994, he worked as a consultant and coordinator for several major private enterprises in Turkey.

In 1999, he joined Istanbul Kültür University, where he served as the Director of the Institute of Social Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, and Vice-Rector. From September 2004 to November 2008, he served as the Rector of Istanbul Kültür University.

Between 2004 and 2012, he was the Director of the Family Business and Entrepreneurship Research Centre at Istanbul Kültür University. He currently continues to contribute to the university as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Prof. Koçel is the author of two books, Business Management and Management Concepts and Techniques, as well as various academic articles.
